Millions of travelers are taking to the roads and skies for Labor Day weekend, including at Newark Liberty International Airport.

About 2.4 million passengers are expected to travel through Port Authority airports over the holiday weekend, including Newark Liberty, John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia and New York Stewart International airports. That’s slightly down from 2.5 million travelers last year.

At Newark Liberty, security lines were moving at a reasonable pace Saturday despite the busy holiday travel period.

Several travelers told News 12 they had expected significant crowds when they booked their trips and gave themselves extra time, but were pleasantly surprised by conditions at the airport.

AAA says Saturday is the best day to travel during the holiday weekend.

Travelers heading out Sunday are advised to leave before noon to avoid heavier traffic and crowds.
