The world has felt a lot less bright this past week as the nation mourns one of our most beloved musical icons—a woman who spent her life proving that a little rhinestone sparkle, a whole lot of heart, and a great attitude can go a very long way.
So, in what might be one of the most Dolly ways possible to celebrate the country music legend, Manhattan is officially giving her a day of her own.
Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal has proclaimed September 25, 2026 as Dolly Parton Appreciation Day across Manhattan, honoring the singer, songwriter, philanthropist and all-around icon whose music has made generations of us laugh, cry, dance, work, dream and, of course, add some sparkle to own 9-to-5s.
The date itself is a little wink to Dolly’s catalog, landing on September 25 in honor of her beloved anthem about the daily grind. Because if anyone deserves to have a day dedicated to celebrating life, love and good music, it’s Dolly.
From “Jolene” to “9 to 5,” “Coat of Many Colors” to “Islands in the Stream,” Dolly has given us songs for just about every chapter of life—and she’s done it all while staying true to the warmth, humor and generosity that made her so much more than a country music star.

Her legacy stretches far beyond the stage, too, from her Imagination Library and commitment to childhood literacy to her countless acts of generosity and support for communities in need.
Now, Manhattan is making sure she gets her flowers, her rhinestones and, fittingly, her very own day. Personally? We think that’s pretty darn fabulous.
