Brooklyn Technical High School will be trying to dethrone the Wolverines from The Bronx High School of Science — the defending boys Public Schools Athletic League cross-country champions.
The Wolverines are the top pre-season pick, followed by McKee/Staten Island Tech, the Engineers from Tech and Susan E. Wagner High School.

The Long Island University football Sharks travel to the Jayhawks of Kansas University, Friday, Sept. 4 with an 8 p.m. kickoff. They opened their season with a 42-21 defeat to North Dakota State last Thursday.
Quarterback Luca Stanzani connected on 12 of 16 attempts, including a 65-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Boakai Veikei in the third quarter.
After earning Northeast Conference Pre-Season All-Conference honors, linebacker Rafael Fasolino had 10 tackles. Defensive back Ryan Maxwell had eight tackles – six solo for LIU.
LIU’s men’s water polo team opened their season with three wins at the Bruno Classic last weekend in Providence, Rhode Island, marking the best start to a season in program history.
LIU claimed its first win of the 2026 season, taking down Wagner College 16-15 in double overtime. Freshman Sebastiano Figari scored three first-half goals. Junior Jack French led LIU with five scores.
The Sharks then went on to top Gannon, 14-13; Connecticut College, 19-7 and The Air Force Academy, 18-16.

The LIU men’s ice hockey team will play a 34-game regular season schedule – 15 home dates at the Northwell Health Ice Center with two additional home contests at UBS Arena on Dec. 28-29 as part of the inaugural Empire State Holiday Invitational in partnership with the New York Islanders.
LIU opens the season on the road with a two-game series at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Oct. 3-4. The Bulldogs, a three-time national champion, enter the season ranked No. 6 nationally.
The following weekend, the Sharks host Canisius University to open the home schedule, Oct. 9-10.

The LIU women’s ice hockey squad has a 35-game schedule, with 18 contests at home. They open the season, Saturday, Sept. 26, traveling to Boston University for an exhibition. Their regular season begins with a pair of home games against the University of New Hampshire, Oct. 2-3.
Set to lead the Sharks into the new season is Grace Babington, who earned First-Team All New England Women’s Hockey Alliance honors for the 2025-26 season after scoring a team-best 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points. She captains the squad, alongside fellow returnees Sam Mathe and Drew Dyczkowski.
Also returning for LIU is sophomore defender Addison Robillard, who earned Second-Team & All-Rookie honors after playing in all 36 games for the Sharks, scoring four goals with nine assists.
Head Coach Kelly Nash enters her fifth season after leading LIU to an 18-17-1 record last season, including a 16-11-1 in-conference mark with a NEWHA Tournament appearance.

The Pratt Institute women’s tennis team was voted first in the 2026 City University of New York Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll.
The black-and-gold enters its new conference riding the momentum of back-to-back Atlantic East Conference championships, which included a perfect 12-0 season last spring. Senior Pallavi Verghese was highlighted as one of the CUNYAC Players to Watch, following a 10-2 campaign last season at No. 1 singles and earning Atlantic East Player of the Year honors.
Pratt’s women’s soccer team has been picked to finish second in the 2026 Atlantic East Conference preseason coaches’ poll. The Cannoneers return a roster led by head coach Travis Blair, and a staff that was named the AE Coaching staff of the Year in 2025.
Pratt opens AE action at home against Gwynedd Mercy, Saturday, Oct. 3, the first of seven conference tests this season.
Madison Hedrich has been named Assistant Athletic Trainer at Pratt Institute. The Presque Isle, Maine native earned her Bachelor of Science in athletic training this spring from the University of Maine. As an athletic training intern with Harvard University’s football this past spring she evaluated and managed acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, developed and progressed rehabilitation programs, and applied splinting and therapeutic modalities, and assisted with emergency action planning.

Brooklyn College had one of their best men’s soccer seasons last Fall with a 10-6-1 (5-1-1 CUNYAC) record. They were a second-place pre-season selection for this season under first-year head coach Ronald Stanislaus.
Andrew Gavrilov, sophomore forward, led the conference in goals (15), points (31) and game winners (6) last season. He ranked among the nation’s best in all three categories.
Brooklyn College sophomore outside volleyball hitter, Saule Okeke-Ziburkus was a Second-Teams All-CUNYAC last season, and finished second on the team in kills and fifth in digs. Lauren Caiaccia enters her first full-season as head coach.
Sophomore Alexis Goodman was named a Player to Watch for women’s tennis. A Second-Team All-CUNYAC selection for BC last season, she finished with a 6-5 overall singles record including a 4-1 mark at the No. 2 flight. She was also 7-4 in doubles.
Brooklyn sophomore runner, Anthony King led the way for the Bulldogs as freshman, finishing fourth overall at last year’s conference championships. He’s the one to watch this Fall.
For the women, the runner to watch is sophomore Meliza Aguilar.
Brooklyn College junior midfielder Chelsea Gonzalez is the one to watch on the Bulldogs’ women’s soccer team. Last season she started all 16 matches and finished second on the team with four assists.
