The driver of a pickup truck was killed when he apparently drove the wrong way on the New York State Thruway Friday night and smashed into an SUV. A tractor trailer was also struck.

New York State Police responded to a call around 10:48 p.m. involving three vehicles on the I-90 eastbound lanes of the Thruway, near the Town of Le Roy in Genesee County.

A preliminary investigation found a pickup truck driven by Josias Perez, a 26-year-old man from Fresno County, Calif., was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes and collided with an SUV, according to State Police.

The driver of the SUV, Canandaigua resident Katie L. Briggs, 44, suffered internal injuries and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment, police said. Two occupants of the tractor trailer, also involved in the accident, were not hurt.

The eastbound lanes of I-90 near the crash site were closed temporarily while State Police investigated and worked to reconstruct the crash. The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Troop A and the Collision Reconstruction Unit are assisting with the investigation, according to police.
