Less than a year after inaugurating Spotless, an acne-focused clinic located at 1053 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan, board-certified dermatologist and psychiatrist Amy Wechsler and her daughter Zoe Wechsler are taking their business downtown.
The new sister location will offer the same menu of services — which includes consultations, $275; topical and oral prescriptions; pimple shots, $100; extractions, $100; and peels with 20 percent salicylic acid, $100 — in addition to two exclusive offerings, a Vbeam laser that targets red marks and a Fraxel laser that helps reduce indented acne scars. The clinic will also include a retail component with an assortment of products by brands like Supergoop, La Roche-Posay, Clinique and Fazit. Guests can visit the space now at 31 East 11th Street, no appointment needed.

“We are all acne all the time, and we will always be all acne all the time,” Zoe told WWD over the phone. “The only thing that we’re expanding on is the amount of patients that we can reach. But we’re not expanding our focus.”

Dubbed “chief vibe officer” by her mom, Zoe captained the design process for the new space, envisioning a contemporary look far from the stereotypical “sterile dermatologist’s office.” Picture curved walls, curtain doors and comfy chairs. “We try to toe the line between warm and welcoming and fun, and also clinical and clean. This is a place where you can trust that you’re going to be taken care of by a licensed clinician,” she said.

The idea for Spotless arrived shortly after Amy enrolled in business school at Columbia University. Having practiced dermatology for over a decade, she saw a demand for fast treatments such as pimple shots, but she was unsure of how to parlay that one service into a scalable business. After mulling it over with a few mentors, Amy broadened her approach to “all acne.”
“Obviously people are going to need more than a simple shot, right?” Amy said. “If you have cystic acne, it’s not just a simple shot solved.”
“I take a lot of time with my patients,” she continued, noting that’s a core differentiator of their business. “We sit with everybody at Spotless. We’re not standing over you. We ask open-ended questions. We’re a combination of urgent care for acne and long-term acne care.”
On how they plan on maintaining that same level of service as their patient volume increases, Zoe said: “I think just being transparent, nothing to hide, is also a big part of our values, and so we try to keep that up, but especially downtown, we’re going to have more clinicians available so that we don’t have to make anyone wait too long.”
Amy, nicknamed the “big boss” by Zoe, will float between the two locations. “This is my life mission, to reach and cure as many people with acne as possible,” she said.
