HELL’S KITCHEN, Manhattan (WABC) — Police are searching for a suspect after two people were stabbed in Hell’s Kitchen on Wednesday.

The stabbings happened inside 440 West 47th St. around 2:45 p.m., according to officials.

They say a 35-year-old woman was stabbed in the back and neck, and a man in his 30’s was stabbed in the torso.

Eyewitnesses described seeing a man on the stoop covered in blood.

“I saw some dude on the stoop in all white but like white as a ghost covered in blood head to toe,” said witness Steve Hines. “I thought he like- I didn’t know it was blood at first then I went over there, his whole body was covered.”

A group of people stood beside him trying to get him help. They grabbed towels and whatever they could find to try to stop the man from bleeding as he slumped over on this stoop.

Jorge Bender put pressure on the wound and got on the phone with police.

“From the size of the wound – and I could see some of the tissue hanging out. I suspect it’s a stabbing,” Bender said. “I said, ‘the gentleman is distraught, he’s very pale.’ I said, ‘he only speaks Spanish and some English. Just please send an ambulance.'”

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, says three people – two men and a woman – live in the apartment where he believes the incident began.

He said he heard an argument in that apartment, followed by a woman screaming, shortly before the stabbing.

That neighbor says he then stepped in a pool of blood in the elevator on his way downstairs, where he passed by the woman hunched over in the vestibule, where officers were talking to her.

“I get into the elevator and I turn around to go press the button to the basement and I realize I’m standing in a pool of blood that’s about this big,” the neighbor said.

He said she didn’t look so good when he saw her afterwards in the lobby.

“The girl that lives there is very glamorous, to put it mildly, so, she’s always done up,” the neighbor said. “And she was disheveled. And she was huddled over. She was sitting on the ground. There were cops over top of her.”

Bender says the male victim’s friends came to the building as he was wounded on the stoop.

“They contacted her, and they were telling her she needs to calm down, and I saw on FaceTime that she had been a little beaten up on the chest and she was very distraught crying,” Bender said. “Didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Finally, she came to open the door, but when she saw him lying on the steps, she wouldn’t come down to see him.”

Both of the victims were taken to Mount Sinai West, and police say they are in stable condition.

Police say the suspect fled in an unknown direction.

The exact relationship between the two victims is unclear, and police have not yet said whether this incident was domestic as they continue to investigate the circumstances.
