Manhattan borough president and Spectrum give away backpacks

Students in Harlem are ready to get back to class.

Thanks to the Manhattan borough president’s office gave a huge helping hand to some of those families by holding a “Backpack Bonanza” in Harlem on Wednesday.

Manhattan Borough President Brad Holyman-Sigal and his staff handed out free book bags, pencils and notebooks outside his upper Manhattan office on 125th Street.

He said the free supplies are an especially big help to many families in the community.

The event was coordinated with the Harlem nonprofit group called “Hit the Books,” which provides after school services to kids in the neighborhood.

The backpacks were donated by the New York Knicks and Spectrum, the parent company of NY1.
