James Holden is an electronic musician and tinkerer who has worn many hats across his twenty year musical career: producer, remixer, DJ, record label boss, synth maestro, band leader, and now software developer with the launch of his open source project ‘benny’: a “modular software playground for making live music” (playbenny.com).
Previously flirting with trance, progressive house, minimal techno, IDM, synth and even jazz, Holden’s explorations are constantly leading him into new territories as he charts his own haphazard course somewhere between unashamed dilettante and virtuosic polymath.
