New York (WRGB) — National Grid New York has received two Edison Electric Institute Emergency Response awards for its storm recovery and mutual-aid work in 2026, including major restoration efforts in Buffalo and across Upstate New York and assistance to Con Edison in New York City.
National Grid’s Upstate New York division received a Recovery award recognizing its response to several events in 2026. The company cited a January 7 underground cable outage in Buffalo that affected power to thousands of customers in downtown Buffalo.
The award also recognized National Grid’s response to Winter Storm Iona in March, which caused multi-day impacts and resulted in more than 150,000 outages across Upstate New York.
In addition, National Grid pointed to a June 18 windstorm that impacted service for thousands of customers in Upstate New York.
National Grid also earned an Assistance award for helping Con Edison recover from a winter storm in late February and early March that affected much of New York City. The company sent underground electric teams and specialized equipment to assist crews with critical repairs across the five boroughs.
