MARINERS HARBOR, Staten Island (PIX11) — One person is dead after multiple explosions in Staten Island sent smoke and fire billowing through the air Thursday.

A woman recording the video captured an explosion on camera, saying that was the seventh such explosion she’d heard since the incident started.

FDNY said a call came in just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday for a reported shipping container fire caused by an explosion on the barge.
Officials said EMS personnel found a man dead on the barge.
Over 160 fire, EMS and hazmat personnel were sent to fight the flames. Firefighters were able to knock down the flames sometime after 4 p.m.
Units on the scene continued to secure remaining petroleum from the shipping container.
The Fire Marshal will work to determine the cause of the fire.
