What is ‘9/11 Tribute in Light: Live From Lower Manhattan?’

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum describes the broadcast as a first-of-its-kind national commemoration timed to coincide with the annual Tribute in Light installation. The program will air live from lower Manhattan as the memorial’s twin beams illuminate the New York City skyline. The special is expected to serve as the culmination of the day’s remembrance activities and will focus on reflection, remembrance and the enduring impact of the events of Sept. 11.

Two planes struck the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, one struck the Pentagon in Virginia, and another crashed near Shanksville, Pa., after passengers intervened.
