Andrew Scott (Fleabag, Vanya) will star in a filmed version of Simon Stephens‘ solo play Sea Wall, to be filmed live during a 16-performance run Off-Broadway at Studio Seaview. The production will perform October 16-30, with shows throughout the run due to be filmed. Tina Satter is directing. Tickets are at SeaWall.nyc.
Sea Wall, which premiered at London’s Bush Theatre in 2008, is a monologue in which a photographer tells the audience about his life as a devoted husband and a proud father, until a sudden and unexpected tragedy changes everything. Scott, for whom the work was written, will be reprising his star-making performance from the original 2008 production. The work got a Broadway bow in 2019 starring Tom Sturridge, called Sea Wall/A Life, an evening of two monologues, where Jake Gyllenhaal performed Nick Payne’s A Life.
The upcoming film version aims to both capture Scott’s performance and the very creation of theatre, also capturing Scott backstage and the audience in the house. The live production will feature lighting design by Isabella Byrd and sound design by Ben Williams. Paul Yee is serving as director of photography for the filming, and Parker Lutz is production design advisor.
The stage production is being produced by Seaview, Spencer Ross, Steven Demmler, Mickey Liddell & Pete Shilaimon, Linden Productions, Both/And Productions, and Pam Hurst-Della Pietra & Stephen Della Pietra, with Wessex Grove and ATG Productions serving as executive producers.
