DIY enthusiasts and crafty folks will always have a home in Jersey City, which is home to so many places to unlock your inner artist. And the good news is, the city has welcomed another. Underscore Glasserie, a stained glass studio located at 373 3rd Street, recently celebrated an open house and will serve as a new space for workshops, commissions, and more. About the Shop
Underscore Glasserie is a new stained glass studio in Jersey City, opened by Michi, an artist with a background in digital product design and an MFA from Pratt University. Michi specializes in copper-foiled stained glass and traditional gold gilding, and has created art in Jersey City for the last decade, between commissioned works and exhibits. While her specialty is in traditional glass artistry, Michi also has a background in cut paper sculpture, mixed media, and glass painting.
According to Underscore Glasserie’s website, Michi’s illustrative style “explores the strength and fragility of femininity, often intertwined with the natural world.” She founded the glass studio to help make the craft of glasswork more accessible to residents in Jersey City. It will feature classes, a shop to buy small glass gifts, and serve as a place to meet others interested in the arts.
Underscore Glasserie recently celebrated its open house on Saturday, September 12th, allowing locals to tour the space and learn about its upcoming classes. Its upcoming class dates are TBD, but you can enroll early on its website. Michi also accepts commissions, with some of her work available to view here.
