When troopers arrived, they found one of the men who had reportedly been assaulted. The victim had suffered a head injury and directed troopers to a nearby camper where they said the other man was located.
As troopers approached the camper, police said a male subject came outside while holding what appeared to be a black handgun in his right hand. The man then pointed the apparent handgun at a trooper and continued moving toward him.
That’s when the trooper fired his duty weapon, striking the man.
Troopers immediately began providing medical aid to the man and called for emergency medical services. Despite those efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.
