TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A Manhattan High senior is being recognized in her community for her role in preserving Black history in Kansas.
Ciera Williamson worked as an intern this summer for the Black Entrepreneurs of the Flint Hills. She helped make the second annual Yuma Street Cultural Festival a reality.
The festival preserves the history of Yuma Street, a historically Black district in Manhattan.
Williamson is also president of the Black Student Union at Manhattan High and vice president of student council for her class. She co-founded a Jesus club and is part of the school’s spirit club.
As president of the Black Student Union, Williamson helps organize an annual poetry slam.
