Police have arrested and charged a homeless man who, they say, stabbed a teenage congregant at a Brooklyn synagogue on Monday evening amid the Jewish high holy days.
According to police sources, 22-year-old Keynes Shimon, whose last known address was Staten Island, has been charged in the 66th Precinct after he allegedly went berserk inside the house of worship at 1675 54th St. in Boro Park.
Cops say they were called to the shul at 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 14 after receiving a 911 call reporting an emotionally disturbed person. The incident occurred just days after the celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year.
When the officers arrived, they discovered that Shimon had allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old boy in the hand with what cops described as a cutting instrument. The boy refused medical treatment at the scene.
Meanwhile, sources familiar with the investigation report that Shimon is a homeless individual who is known to have frequented the synagogue in the past. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a nearby hospital for a psychological evaluation.
Shimon has been charged with assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon.
