Sand Lake, NY (WRGB) — New York State Police are searching for a missing 17-year-old last seen near Garner Road in Sand Lake, warning the public to use caution as the teen may be experiencing a mental health crisis, according to authorities.
On September 15, 2026, at about 4:20 p.m., State Police responded to a residence in the area of Garner Road for a report of a missing/runaway 17-year-old.
The teen, Ashton Cushman, is described as a white male with blonde hair who is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds. He was last seen near Garner Road wearing a white T-shirt, black sweatpants and black flip-flops.
According to authorities, Ashton may be suffering from a mental health crisis. It is unknown whether he is armed, but police said the public should not approach him. Anyone who sees him should call 911 immediately.

State Police say residents should anticipate a heavy police presence in the area as the search continues.
Averill Park Central School District buildings is on a 2 hour delay due to the search.
