New York state has launched a new measles database, which keeps track of cases in your area.
Health officials say there has been an increased number of reports in rural areas.
Officials also suggest parents have children vaccinated against measles, especially if you are traveling to any high-risk areas.
“Under the leadership of Governor Hochul, we are working closely with local health departments and regional partners to track and contain this recent uptick in measles cases,” State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald said. “Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious illness and hospitalizations, yet it is effectively prevented with up-to-date measles immunizations. I urge New Yorkers to check their vaccination status and make sure that they and their families are protected. I also ask health providers to be prepared to diagnose and treat any measles they encounter.”
According to the database, there have been more than 50 confirmed cases in New York this year.
The database will be updated Tuesdays and will display cases through the prior Saturday.
