Riley Elton McCarthy’s horror comedy play Ivories will make its New York premiere Off-Broadway at East Village Basement, with a run set for November 6-22. Opening night will be November 9. Evan Michael Woods will direct.
The work, coming stateside after a recent run in London, follows a young couple who inherit a dying relative’s home only to discover long-buried secrets inside.
The Off-Broadway cast will feature Christine Carmela as Sloane, Noah Pyzik (Our Town) as Gwyn, John Yi (The Rocky Horror Show, KPOP) as Beckham, and Aster Drewe (Hamilton, Pass Over) as The Neighbor. Understudies Hope Johansen and Edson Montenegro round out the company.
“The greatest gift to horror on stage is an intimate venue,” says Woods in a statement. “There’s a reason we’ve told scary stories around a campfire for hundreds of years; all you need is a gripping narrative, a dark venue, and a captive audience to create something truly bone-chilling. Riley’s play is about the horrors of what goes unsaid and the horrors that compel you toward those frightening, brutal truths.”
The production will feature set design by Leah Mazur, costume design by Verity Johnson, sound design by Brandon Kizoloz, and lighting design by Jociel Tambone. The creative team also includes associate set designer Emmarose Campbell and associate director Hope Johansen. Madie Winningham will serve as stage manager.
