NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — President Donald Trump is expected to visit New York City next week for the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
The event runs from Sept. 22 to Sept. 28, bringing hundreds of world leaders and dignitaries to Midtown Manhattan. Trump is expected to address the United Nations as the United States’ representative on Sept. 22, following Brazil.
Beyond the keynote speeches, the president is expected to meet with world leaders throughout the week. According to news reports, Trump could meet with Gulf leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the city is expecting dignitaries to travel to the city on Sunday. Secret Service agents will support the NYPD across the city.
Protests are expected across the city, particularly surrounding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is expected to attend. Last year, protest groups blocked roads near the UN headquarters, leading to arrests.
In his speech last year, Trump heavily criticized the United Nations, suggested he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize and referred to climate policies as a hoax.
