NEW YORK (WABC) — New York Mets first baseman Jared Young was carted off the field Thursday night at Citi Field following a scary collision with teammate and pitcher Nolan McLean.
It happened with two outs in the top of the 6th inning against the Philadelphia Phillies, when outfielder Justin Crawford hit a slow dribbler towards first base.
As McLean scrambled to cover the bag, he accidentally collided with Young, who appeared to get struck in the face with McLean’s legs as he was lunging for the ball.
Mets manager Andy Green and an athletic trainer immediately ran out from the dugout, and a cart was called for Young.
McLean put his hands on his knees and bent down as all the Mets on the field gathered near Young. Catcher Francisco Alvarez appeared to be praying and members of both teams looked on from the dugouts. Bohm took a knee next to third base.
Young flashed a thumbs up to the crowd as he was carted off the field.
The Mets posted on social media that Young has been taken to the hospital for further examination, but said he has “feeling in his extremities.”
The 31-year-old first baseman was hitting .266 with nine homers and 39 RBIs.
