EDINBURG, N.Y. (WRGB) — UPDATE: State Police are confirming that a glider pilot was found dead after a midair collision Friday afternoon.
At approximately 4:54 p.m., with the assistance of State Police Aviation, New York State Forest Rangers, and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, debris was located in a remote area, off of Sand Lake Road in Edinburg.
After further investigation and with the assistance of all agencies and multiple local fire departments the glider plane’s collision site was located. The pilot, who was the only person in the aircraft at the time of the collision, was discovered deceased at the crash site.
The investigation is ongoing, and notifications have been made to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The deceased pilot’s name will not be released at this time pending needed notifications.

Investigators were on the scene of a glider collision Friday afternoon in Edinburg. Police say two gliders collided mid-air near Wheeler Road and Airport Road, just north of Great Sacandaga Lake.
Officials said one of the aircraft landed in a field in the area (Plateau Sky Ranch Airport), and that the pilot of the aircraft that landed was not hurt. However, investigators were still searching for the second glider as of Friday evening.
According to information provided at the scene, the initial call came in around 2:30 p.m.
A helicopter was seen launching as part of the effort. Authorities also established a staging area near the scene.
Officials said the situation remained active and details were still limited.
