The Giants have had enough of Brian Daboll, as the team is firing their head coach following a 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears. Daboll becomes the second NFL coach fired this season, following the Titans’ move on from head coach Brian Callahan. Daboll, who is in his fourth year with the Giants, has a 2-8 record this season, and the team just set a staggering franchise record with an 11th straight road loss. That comes a year after the Giants set a franchise record with a 10-game losing streak in 2024.
Daboll finished his tenure with the Giants 20-40-1 in three-plus seasons.
Former NFL quarterback Mike Kafka has been named the Giants’ interim head coach. An All-Big Ten selection from Northwestern, Kafka was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft and spent six seasons in the NFL as a journeyman quarterback. Kafka became the quarterbacks coach for the Chiefs in 2018 and helped Patrick Mahomes earn the NFL Most Valuable Player award that season.
Sunday’s loss was the fourth time this season that the Giants lost a game in which they led by double figures.
According to ESPN analytics, the Giants had a 96.9% win probability with 5:35 left in Sunday’s fourth quarter. This comes after blowing leads with a 92.3% win probability against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 and after having a 99.3% win probability against the Denver Broncos in Week 7.

The Giants have a franchise quarterback, and one reason for the firing could be to get Jaxson Dart away from Daboll before he’s seriously hurt. The rookie quarterback suffered a concussion in the second half. Sunday’s game marked the fourth time Dart was evaluated for a concussion this season. During an evaluation in the Week 6 win over Philadelphia, Daboll went into the blue medical tent to check on Dart’s status — a violation that earned him a $100,000 fine.
The NFL fined the Giants $200K, head coach Brian Daboll $100, and running back Cam Skattebo $15K for violating the league’s concussion protocol in Week 6 during the 34-17 win over the Eagles. The NFL and NFLPA conducted a joint investigation over the New York Giants‘ handling of concussion protocol when Jaxson Dart was forced to exit the game.
