Manhattan High volleyball continued its recent surge with a perfect 4-0 week, extending its winning streak to seven matches.

The Indians, now 11-5, opened the week Monday with sweeps of Blue Valley Northwest and Free State. Manhattan defeated Blue Valley Northwest 25-15, 25-16 before taking down Free State 25-16, 25-23.

The win over Free State was particularly notable for Manhattan, which lost to the Firebirds earlier this season. The Indians were able to flip the result in the rematch, continuing a stretch of improved play after an uneven start to the season.

Mental toughness was something Manhattan coach Nicole Jones identified as an area for improvement earlier in the season.

“I would say we need to work on our mental game, just being confident and making sure that we move on after making a mistake,” Jones said after the team’s home opener.

That recipe was on display later in the week as well, as Manhattan returned to action Thursday and picked up two more wins. The Indians defeated Blue Valley Southwest 17-25, 25-19, 25-18 before sweeping the match host Olathe West 25-18, 25-20.

Manhattan will look to keep the streak going Monday when it travels to face Tonganoxie and Mill Valley.
