BROOKLYN, NY — A four-alarm fire caused a partial roof collapse at a restaurant and injured six firefighters in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn on Saturday evening, an official said.

The fire at Juliette Restaurant at 135 North 5th St. by Belford Avenue was sending thick smoke into the air, Council Member Lincoln Restler of the 33rd District said in a post on X.

Juliette was one of three restaurants at the site, CBS News reported, quoting fire officials. The fire extended through the space between the ceiling and the roof from one restaurant into the two adjoining restaurants.

It was reported about 5:30 p.m. and was under control about 8:30 p.m., the report said.

Six firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment, the CBS report said. More than 200 firefighters and EMTs responded.

In addition to the partial roof collapse, there was a smoke explosion that sent smoke billowing into the air, ABC 7 reported.

“Recommend folks in immediate area close windows and avoid smoke,” Restler said. “Expect traffic delays.”

“Hoping everyone is okay and grateful to firefighters on scene,” Restler said.
