MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN (PIX11) — Leaders from all around the world are arriving on Monday for the United Nations General Assembly.
On top of traffic jams, expect extra security around Midtown East.
The city has been coordinating with the Secret Service and about 20 other agencies to ensure the safety of world leaders and everyday commuters.
As world leaders arrive in the city this week, traffic is expected to be a nightmare.
The United Nations 81st General Assembly officially started on September 8th, but the high-level general debate, with presidents and representatives from around the world, happens this week.

City officials are urging commuters to take public transit whenever possible. Trains will run every two to five minutes to help people move through the system.
If you need to take the bus, it might be delayed or rerouted. The MTA app helps with that.
Security, as always, is a main concern ahead of the meeting.
Even more so this year, with the ongoing conflicts in Iran, Gaza, and Ukraine.
More than 20 agencies are involved in the operations, including the NYPD and federal partners.
Multiple protests are planned all through the week, especially ahead of the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, scheduled for Thursday.
Netanyahu has faced criticism over the wars in Gaza and Iran, including from Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Representatives from around the world should be arriving at the UN around noon Monday for panels and initial discussions.
The general debate begins on Tuesday; that is when we expect to hear from President Donald Trump.
Traffic disruptions will continue through the end of the week.
