KINGSTON, N.Y. — Kingston High has earned the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) School of Excellence Award for the 2025-2026 school year.
The award recognizes schools in which 75 percent or more of their varsity teams earn scholar-athlete team status. To qualify, the top 75 percent of each team’s roster must have a combined grade-point average of 90 or higher.
The Kingston School District offers 36 varsity athletic opportunities for boys and girls.
This is the first time in Athletic Director Rich Silverstein’s 10-year tenure that Kingston has achieved this academic and athletic distinction.
“Being a student-athlete requires late nights, weekends, and a tremendous commitment to both academics and athletics,” Silverstein said. “This accomplishment shows our students that their hard work, both in the classroom and in competition, is recognized and rewarded. We are incredibly proud of them.”
This recognition reflects the dedication of Kingston High School student-athletes and the support they receive from their teachers, coaches, families, and the entire school district, a statement from the school district said.
The Kingston City School District congratulated its student-athletes and varsity teams on this outstanding achievement.
Kingston High was presented with the award at the NYSPHSAA’s fall meeting on Thursday, Sept. 10 at the Country Club of Otterkill in Campbell Hall.
