The shooting happened at 51-24 Beach Channel Drive in the Edgemere section just after 3:30 p.m.

When police arrived, they found the 14-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the back in an apartment complex at the location.

He was taken to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in critical condition, and was later pronounced dead, according to police.
