Boy, 14, shot to death in Queens during possible scooter theft

A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in the back Monday afternoon in Queens during a possible attempt to steal his scooter, police said.

The victim was shot at Beach Channel Drive near Beach 51st St. in the Edgemere neighborhood of the Rockaways about 3:30 p.m., cops said. The killer may have been trying to steal the victim’s scooter, police sources said.

“It was two shots,” said a female resident of the Ocean Bay houses in Edgemere. “He fell out in the walkway over there by the basketball court.

“He was face up, not moving,” she said “he was bleeding from the chest.”

Medics rushed the boy to Cohen Children’s Hospital, where he later died. His name was not immediately released.

His killer, who was wearing a black sweatshirt and white shorts, fled on a scooter, police sources said. He has not been caught.

“He lived here all his life,” the female resident said. “And everybody was saying, don’t talk, don’t say anything. Everybody is scared.”
