NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — President Donald Trump is set to address world leaders Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly as representatives from nearly 200 nations gather in New York City for the annual meeting.

Trump was scheduled to speak at 10 a.m., addressing a range of issues facing the international community. Topics drawing attention during this year’s gathering include global economic uncertainty, concerns surrounding artificial intelligence, climate change, soaring energy prices, and the impacts of summer heat waves and wildfires.

Among the leaders attending the General Assembly is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The 81st session of the General Assembly has brought heightened security and traffic disruptions across New York City as delegations move throughout the city.

Thousands of NYPD officers and specialized units are deployed around U.N. headquarters, and road closures are expected throughout the week. Portions of the FDR Drive also may be affected as world leaders travel to and from events.

The General Assembly comes one day after Trump met with Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion. The meeting marked the pair’s third face-to-face encounter.

The political rivals publicly praised one another as they discussed issues including public safety, housing and the long-discussed development of Sunnyside Yards.

Sonia Rincon has details on the high-stakes meeting.

“What we’re speaking about is 12,000 homes, 30,000 jobs. The prospect of an entire new neighborhood in a city where housing is the number one cost,” Mamdani said.

“You’re going to need a lot of federal approvals and probably some federal money to do it. But, it’s always been a great location. I owned a building in Sunnyside. It was a great building. I know it very well,” Trump said.

Protests are expected near U.N. headquarters as world leaders continue their meetings throughout the week.

Trump is also scheduled to meet Tuesday afternoon with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as part of a series of events surrounding the General Assembly.
