A 48-year-old suspect has been arrested for killing a teen at a wild Bronx car meetup last month that saw more than 60 shots fired, police said Tuesday.
Billy Perez was charged Monday with murder, manslaughter and gun possession for the Aug. 23 killing of 18-year-old Werling Mendez.
A 22-year-old man shot in the chest and a 20-year-old woman shot in the foot survived the barrage of bullets. At least one other gunman is still being sought.
The shooting appears to have been sparked by the robbery of two women near the scene on E. 233rd St. near Boston Road in Baychester.
A 25-year-old woman was delivering slushies when her wallet and gold link chain were stolen and a 37-year-old woman had her Cuban link chain and cell phone stolen as one of three crooks held a gun to her head.
It was not clear Tuesday if Mendez is accused of being involved in the robberies. His arraignment was pending in Bronx Criminal Court.
Car meetups have caused concern in neighborhoods around the city, with dozens of souped-up cars converging on quiet streets, where the drivers drag race and perform dangerous stunts.
The NYPD tracks meetups promoted on social media but some are organized too quickly for authorities to react.
