TOWN OF HOUNSFIELD, New York (WWNY) – An 83-year-old woman died after a two-vehicle crash Friday at the intersection of State Route 3 and County Route 66, according to New York State Police.
State police responded to the crash at about 4:49 p.m. on September 18.
A preliminary investigation found a 2016 Honda Fit, driven by Mary Lou Alexander, 83, of New Hartford, was headed north on County Route 66 and tried to cross State Route 3 onto State Route 180.
Alexander’s vehicle did not stop at a stop sign and moved into the path of a 2024 Honda CR-V, driven by Paula Edwards, 55, of Sackets Harbor, who was heading east on State Route 3. The two vehicles collided.
Both drivers were taken to Samaritan Medical Center. Alexander was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Edwards suffered serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
State police say the investigation is ongoing.
