HOUNSFIELD, N.Y. — An elderly woman was killed in a crash in Jefferson County, the New York State Police said.
The state police identified the woman as Mary Lou Alexander, 83, of New Hartford, N.Y.
The police said that on Sept. 18, around 4:49 p.m., troopers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Route 3 and County Route 66 in the Town of Hounsfield.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2016 Honda Fit driven by Alexander was traveling north on County Route 66 and attempting to cross State Route 3 onto State Route 180.
Police said Alexander failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the path of a 2024 Honda CR-V driven by a 55-year-old woman from Sackets Harbor, N.Y. Alexander and the Honda collided.
Alexander and the Sackets Harbor woman were taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, N.Y.
Alexander was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other woman’s injuries were described as serious, but non-life-threatening.
The New York State Police are still investigating the crash.
