New York State Police are reminding caregivers to regularly check their children’s car seats for potential safety issues.
Certified technicians in Owego Tuesday checked seats for proper installation, expiration dates and recalls while also making sure that children were properly harnessed.
“It’s very important to do their own checks, too, because the car seat itself can loosen, the straps can loosen,” New York State Police Traffic Safety Officer Anthony Grigoli said. “Obviously, the child grows. So you want to make sure that they’re in the right seat, at the right stage.”
Police say the checks are focused on education, not enforcement, and that caregivers should check their child’s seat before each trip.
