EAST WILLIAMSBURG — A 27-YEAR-OLD MAN accused of raping a 12-year-old girl inside NYCHA’s Cooper Park Houses on Thursday in East Williamsburg was arrested Friday at 3:35 p.m. within the 84th Precinct, police said. Eric McMichael, who was living in a 200-bed Greenpoint shelter for men, allegedly attacked and raped the girl in a stairwell around 5:45 p.m., then fled. McMichael was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual abuse, burglary and child endangerment. He was arraigned Saturday and remanded without bail.

His next appearance at Kings County Criminal Court will take place this Thursday, according to court paperwork. McMichael previously pleaded guilty in 2021 to first-degree sexual abuse and burglary in a 2019 Staten Island case, and is due back in court there Nov. 19 for a post-disposition hearing.

A Crime Stoppers tip from another shelter resident led to his arrest the next day, according to the New York Daily News.
