WANTED: Man accused of attacking victim with hammer inside Lyons home during burglary

Lyons, N.Y. — New York State Police are asking for help finding a wanted man following an incident in Wayne County.

Police said Matthew Butchino, 40, unlawfully entered a home on Canal Street in Lyons Sept. 6 and struck a victim multiple times with a hammer before fleeing. The victim was treated at Geneva General Hospital for multiple lacerations and a facial fracture.

Butchino is wanted on an arrest warrant for two counts of burglary, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call New York State Police at (585) 398-4100 or email crimetip@troopers.ny.gov.

Police said anyone who sees Butchino should not attempt to approach or apprehend him, and should contact police.
