A fire on the fourth floor of a building in the Bronx left one person dead and 10 people injured, including firefighters, authorities said.
The FDNY said it got a call at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday reporting the fire on Montgomery Avenue in Morris Heights. It quickly escalated, drawing nearly 150 fire and emergency personnel to the scene.
Video posted to the Citizen app showed thick smoke billowing from the six-story building’s higher stories.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person, a man who is believed to have jumped out a window to escape the flames, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. EMS found him badly injured on the sidewalk.
The remaining injured included four firefighters who responding to the call, officials said. One of them had what was described as “moderate” injuries, while the other four suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
An investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
