A New York driver stopped traffic after spotting a snapping turtle stranded in the middle of the road.Justin Rios was driving westbound on NY-300 toward Walden, New York, USA, when he noticed the animal ahead. He stopped, put his hazard lights on and grabbed a pair of heavy-duty gloves from his trunk.”So I blocked traffic, put my blinkers on, grabbed my heavy duty gloves out the trunk and eventually mustered up the courage to pick up this tortoise,” Rios said.The animal repeatedly clawed at his gloves as he carried it away from the traffic.”It was very wiggly and didn’t like to be touched,” he explained.Near the end of the rescue, the turtle managed to pry itself loose from Rios’ hands and fell when it was only an inch from the ground.Rios later shared the dashcam footage on Instagram, writing: “Today, I cast my fears aside, and saved a tortoise from getting smushed.”He also joked that without the gloves, its claws might have “taken my fingers off.”
