Two music festivals scheduled for this weekend in New York City have been canceled due to a nor’easter that is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the five boroughs.

The annual Global Citizen Festival in Central Park has been canceled for the first time in 14 years because of the weather.

“Forecasts predict dangerous conditions and circumstances in which we cannot safely bring tens of thousands of Global Citizens, artists, crew, vendors, partners, and staff onto the Great Lawn, let alone all of the equipment required. Safety has to come first,” the organizers said in a statement.

The festival is held on the park’s Great Lawn. The Great Lawn ended up closing for the season several weeks earlier than usual in 2023 after it was damaged when the festival was held on a rainy day.

The All Things Go Music Festival, at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, was also canceled. Tickets purchased for the festival from AXS Online or by phone will automatically be refunded, according to organizers.

A Wind Advisory has been issued through Sunday morning for most of the city. In addition, Coastal Flood Warnings are in effect for parts of New York Harbor and Queens from Friday night through Sunday.

Gusty winds and periods of rain are expected on Saturday, with heavier showers arriving in the evening.
