“I was briefed on shots fired near Brinkerhoff and Monticello, one block from Lincoln High School. One person has been shot. The individual is alert and conscious and receiving medical care,” Mayor James Solomon wrote on X about an hour ago.

“The high school was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution, which has since been lifted as there is no ongoing threat. I want to thank the JCPD officers for their quick response. One individual has been detained, and officers safely recovered three handguns.”

Solomon continued that the investigation is in its early stages and that more information will be released at the appropriate time(s).

“Gun violence has no place in Jersey City, especially near a school where our children and families should feel safe,” he concluded.

No additional information was immediately available, but this story will be updated in the event that more information is released.
