TOWN OF LERAY, New York (WWNY) – A 31-year-old Deferiet woman died Sunday afternoon following a head-on collision on County Route 46 in the town of LeRay.
New York State Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 3:57 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2026. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Honda CRV, driven by a 32-year-old Gouverneur man, was heading south when he attempted to pass another vehicle and crashed head-on into a northbound 2023 Buick Encore driven by a 65-year-old Theresa man.
A 31-year-old woman from Deferiet was a passenger in the Honda CRV.
Emergency responders transported all three individuals to Samaritan Medical Center, where the female passenger was later pronounced dead.
Both drivers suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
