PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (7News) — A man convicted of kidnapping and killing a New York woman during a police chase and shootout on Interstate 95 in Prince William County has been sentenced to 178 years in prison, prosecutors said.
Michael C. Davis, 38, was sentenced Friday to 258 years, with 80 years suspended, according to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

The case stems from April 5, 2023, when a state trooper spotted Davis’ Jeep Cherokee after it crossed from Maryland into Virginia on I-495. Authorities had received an alert that the vehicle could be connected to an abduction out of Ithaca, New York.
A trooper stopped the Jeep in Fairfax County and saw Tatiana David in the back seat, prosecutors said. As the trooper worked to verify the abduction report and waited for backup, Davis allegedly took off.
State police pursued Davis through local roads and onto I-95, following him into Prince William County for more than 20 miles, according to prosecutors. The chase ended when the Jeep crashed into the woods near mile marker 148.
Prosecutors said Davis opened fire on troopers from the driver’s seat as they approached the crashed Jeep. Troopers returned fire.

During the shootout, Davis shot Tatiana David multiple times, killing her. Prosecutors said autopsy and ballistics evidence confirmed the bullets found in David came from Davis’ gun.
No troopers were killed.
“Tatiana David did not deserve to die,” Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney Amy Ashworth said in a statement. “The sentence holds Michael Davis accountable and reflects the severity of the defendant’s crimes and the courage of the law enforcement officers who risked their lives to bring this dangerous pursuit to an end.”
