Anne Hathaway is looking back on her first New York City apartment!
The Devil Wears Prada star, 43, opened up about her former 350-square-foot abode for New York Magazine’s “NYQ” segment, published Friday, Sept. 25.
She also detailed how she furnished the space during the Q&A, noting that she’s no stranger to picking up a piece of furniture off the street — especially when it came to an “adorable” table she spotted for her first N.Y.C. home.
“It was a great table. It was my first apartment. I had an inflatable mattress and a TV, and I didn’t have anything to put the TV on,” she told the outlet. “And I was just walking down the street and I just saw this completely adorable little table. And it was my table for about 10 years.”
Getting into more details about the tiny walk-up, Hathaway also fondly recalled her favorite feature in the entire space.
“It was a 350-square-foot walk-up, a sublet. But the best part was it had a fire escape,” the actress explained. “I would just go out there and get drunk and smoke cigarettes with my friends. And I literally didn’t think life could get better.”
Hathaway also detailed her connection to New York City, noting that she was born in Brooklyn but her family moved to New Jersey when she was 6 years old.
“Then I came back when I was 18, and it’s been off and on since then,” she continued. As for how many times she’s moved in the city, the star added: “Oh, a lot. Upwards of eight but most likely, like, 15.”

Most recently, the actress has been busy promoting her upcoming movie Verity, which also stars Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett. The film, which is based on Colleen Hoover‘s 2018 novel of the same name, premieres Friday, Oct. 2.
During a press tour in New York City for the upcoming thriller, marking Hathaway’s fifth film of 2026, the Oscar winner showed off her fashionable maternity style, including a brightly colored short-sleeve dress with an exaggerated lettuce trim as well as a black knitted halter dress with heeled sandals.

Hathaway first announced that she was expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman in an Instagram post on June 19. She shared the news in a video with Barbara Lewis’ song “Baby, I’m Yours” playing in the background.
The star — who is already mom to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6 — later revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in August that she and Shulman, 45, know the sex of their third baby but are “not saying.”
