Marsha Warfield and Martha Wash combine talents and sassy attitude in the spotlight.
The performers tell Hosea Sanders they want us to join them for a night of humor and
“She’s nice and I’m naughty, I will start he show being naughty and provocative and a little blasphemous, and then after I have upset a lot of people, then Martha comes out and sings them happy,” Warfield said.
“Disco was fun music, happy music, it made people want to dance, everybody felt like they were in love with each other through the music,” Wash said.
The music industry used Wash’s voice but it was being lip synched and she wasn’t seen in videos.
“That practice caused an uproar, I did an award-winning series on it as a reporter in L.A,” she said.
ABC 7’s Hosea Sanders said she helped him win his first Emmy.
“You had three songs, hit songs, number one, but your face was not on any of those things. It was a controversy and they just did you wrong,” Sanders said.
“Baby, honey this is well over thirty years, I have long moved on and done other things,” Wash said.
For Warfield, Chicago is her hometown. She is from the city’s South Side.
“I love Chicago, I can’t wait to get back,” she said. “If I had enough time I would go to the DuSable Museum every time I come to town and I would take the Dilla’s Mahogany Tour of Bronzeville, the cool of the South Side,” Warfield said.
Marsha Warfield and Martha Wash are at City Winery Chicago in the West Loop on Saturday, Oct. 3.
