With a little more than five weeks until Election Day, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he plans to campaign with Gov. Kathy Hochul as she seeks reelection.

Mamdani said Monday that he is ready to join Hochul on the campaign trail and help her campaign before Election Day.

“Generally, my focus is New York City. What I will say is that I’m incredibly excited to be out there in my support for Gov. Hochul,” Mamdani said.

Sources told NY1 that Mamdani will stump on behalf of Hochul before Election Day.

The move gives Hochul an opportunity to campaign with Mamdani in New York City, where he has an energized voter base.

“The governor and I, we are aligned on the things that matter, which is how to ensure that working-class families can afford to keep living in this state. And too often politics, it feels like a hobby only some people can afford to have,” Mamdani said.

In a statement to NY1 on Monday, a Hochul campaign spokesman said the campaign plans to use Mamdani to target young voters and encourage turnout.

“Our campaign plans to tap the mayor to boost turnout and energize unlikely voters in New York City, deploying him to headline events targeting young voters, launch canvasses, engage volunteers, and remind voters that affordability is on the ballot this fall,” the spokesman said.

Hochul is facing a challenge from Republican Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive. President Donald Trump has endorsed Blakeman.

Mamdani criticized Blakeman on Monday, pointing to his position on immigration enforcement and his actions in Nassau County.

“To have a potential governor who embraces ICE. And who has gone so far as to create a private militia in Nassau County, and that is in many ways the antithesis of what people hope for is the future of this state,” Mamdani said.

NY1 reached out to Blakeman’s campaign for comment and had not heard back.

Mamdani endorsed Hochul in February. The two have also worked together to begin delivering on Mamdani’s promise of free child care.
