Kinderhook, NY (WRGB) — A traffic stop in Columbia County escalated into a police chase before ending with an arrest after a patrol vehicle was hit, New York State Police said.
On Sept. 29, 2026, at about 1:48 p.m., New York State Police in Chatham attempted to stop a 2024 Volkswagen on Route 9H in Kinderhook for a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Police said the driver, identified as 50-year-old Angelina Lopez of Lake Wales, Florida, failed to comply, prompting a car chase.
Police said, the chase continued until the vehicle briefly stopped at the intersection of Route 9 and County Route 19 in Livingston, police said. Authorities said Lopez then tried to flee the scene and hit a New York State Police patrol vehicle with her car.
Lopez was taken into custody and charged with second-degree criminal mischief; third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle; two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment; second-degree obstructing governmental administration; resisting arrest; operating a motor vehicle while ability impaired by drugs; reckless driving; and numerous additional New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
Police said Lopez was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to return to Town of Livingston Court at a later date.
