Mary Decker tucked away money under her pillow in the early 1930s, then handed it to her husband and helped buy a tugboat. That purchase launched a Staten Island family business, and by 1946 the Decker family had named the boat W.O. Decker after her father-in-law. The tugboat became the cornerstone of Decker’s Towing Service, and Mary Decker managed finances, payroll, logbooks, and crew schedules.
