JAMAICA, Queens (PIX11) — A trash-filled vacant lot in Jamaica is at the center of an investigation after officials say a body was found burned beyond recognition.
Police were called to the overgrown property on Hillside Avenue and 139th Street Thursday evening after police were notified that a body, believed to be a man, was spotted there.

At first, it was reported that the body was burned, but sources tell PIX11 News that the body was just decomposed after a closer look.
Neighbors and nearby business owners say that the lot is a trouble spot with illegal activity happening behind the wall. The hope is that, after what has happened, something will be done to clean it up.
The medical examiner will determine the identity of the person and cause of death.
