ASTORIA, Queens (WABC) — A Brooklyn man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while impaired by drugs in connection with a crash on the Grand Central Parkway in Queens that killed a 23-year-old woman.

Authorities identified the driver as 34-year-old Anthony Dickson of Brooklyn. Investigators say Dickson was behind the wheel of a Honda that lost control on the westbound Grand Central Parkway near the Steinway Street overpass in Astoria around 4:07 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle struck a guardrail, hit a light pole and overturned.

Police said the 23-year-old woman, identified as Arianna Arregui, was riding in the rear seat and was ejected onto the roadway. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with severe injuries and was later pronounced dead.

Dickson was not injured in the crash and was later arrested.

Editor’s note: Police initially reported the crash involved a second vehicle. They have since determined the Honda was the only vehicle involved.
