Manhattan High volleyball made quick work of the Centennial League on Saturday at Junction City, going 5-0 without dropping a set to claim its first league title since 2017.

The Indians moved to 19-7 on the season after sweeping Emporia 25-10, 26-24, Hayden 25-21, 25-20, Junction City 25-9, 25-9, Topeka 25-11, 25-13 and Washburn Rural 25-21, 25-17.

Ahead of the tournament, Manhattan coach Nicole Jones said she wanted to see her team bring energy and play together throughout the day.

“I want them to work together and not be flat,” Jones said. “Be loud and energetic, talking to our hitters. Doing all the things — just play smart volleyball.”

The Indians followed that plan, handling each of their five opponents in straight sets to finish the tournament undefeated.

With the win over Hayden, Manhattan won the season series over the Wildcats, despite dropping the team’s first meeting in August. The Indians also rolled through Washburn Rural for the second time this season, adding another win over their rival that had dominated the league in recent years.

Manhattan will return to action Thursday with a home matchup against Junction City and Hays.
